Reasons to Worry After Detroit Lions SLIM Victory Over The Saints?!
I saw a young man proudly wearing a Jahmyr Gibbs jersey during the Detroit Lions season-opening game. He wore that jersey with pride. He popped the collar and smiled.
At the time the Lions were killing the New Orleans Saints.
Later, I ran into another young man who appropriately wore a shirt that said “Fuckin Lions.” He looked stressed. He looked angry.
The Lions were in the process of blowing a 21-point lead.
In one afternoon of football the city held its breath, cursed at the football Gods, celebrated great play, cursed poor play. Praised the defense. Cursed the defense. All in one day.
That is the crazy ride the Lions took fans on opening day at Ford Field. Brace yourself. There are only 16 more of these walks on the wild side remaining. There won’t be time to recover. Game 2 is Thursday in Buffalo, a Bills team that put up 36 points against the best defense in the NFL.
That’s the NFL. That’s what makes the NFL so popular and engaging. Fans walk around with a mix of optimism and stress. You knew the Lions were going to beat the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Then you knew they were not.
Bottom line is the Lions held on for a 31-30 thriller to open the season. People stressed out because they were told the Saints were not a good team. Then we began to hear that they are good and might win their division.
Heck, maybe this was a preview of the NFC Championship game. LOL.
Detroit is not the only NFL city where people are stressing out. The Green Bay Packers lost to Carson Wentz.
The Houston Texans are being told they have the best defense in the NFL. They gave up 36 points to Buffalo. That is more than the leaky Lions defense gave up.
The Los Angeles Rams lost their first game by 20 points on their way to the Super Bowl.
The Lions are 1-0. Be thankful for that.
