Kavanagh: McGregor vs Poirier 2 Will Be At 170lbs

Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier

SBG head coach John Kavanagh confirmed that McGregor vs Poirier 2 will be in the Welterweight division. Kavanagh took to Twitter to encourage Poirier to eat all the Christmas dinner to bulk up to 170lbs. McGregor made his return to the Octagon in January 2020 at UFC 246 and defeated Donald Cerrone in 40 seconds. McGregor fought at Welterweight at UFC 246 and it looks like the former champ will be returning to that division when he faces Poirier.

Dana White Hesitant On Cowboys Stadium For McGregor vs Poirier 2

Obviously in a perfect world Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier 2 would easily fill the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas. Lets be hones though the chances of that happening are slim to none. During a recent media scrum, White was hesitant to confirm nor deny any rumors associated with the January 23rd bout happening in Texas. White seems to be waiting for the end of the election to make any decisions regarding fans attending UFC events in 2021.

“We’ve have a very good relationship with Jerry Jones for a long time. We’ve talked about Dallas Texas stadium for a while. We’re not going into any arena where we’re going to fill a quarter of the arena or half the arena. So when crowds are ready to come back, we’ll do crowds again. When we all leave Fight Island and go home, we’re literally days away from the election. I truly believe that the election’s going to have a huge impact on all the bullshit that we’ve been dealing with for the last however many months. I’m hoping that a lot of this is going to go away after the election.”

Dana White

Although the UFC has yet to confirm that McGregor vs Poirier 2 is a go, Dana WHite did state both fighters have verbally agreed to the bout. As far as the fight goes I’ll start getting excited when both fighters actually enter the octagon and the door shuts. If 2020 has taught me anything it’s to not get my hopes up when it comes to the UFC. There’s been so many canceled fights this year that I’m not looking forward to a single future fight until Buffer is announcing names.
