As the Pistons prepare for the upcoming NBA Draft, the first turn their focus to the community.
The Detroit Pistons held its Fall Fest last Saturday outside of the Performance Center, with over 300 people in attendance. With the 2020 Election on the horizon, the event focused on celebrating registered voters in the city of Detroit.
The three-hour event featured a live DJ set while Pistons staff encouraged voters as they turned in their absentee ballots. The Pistons Performance Center is one of the locations registered Detroit voters can turn in their ballots.
Entertainment also included live painting demonstrations, an appearance by Pistons’ mascot Hooper, and several giveaways.
Attendees enjoyed free donuts and cider courtesy of Franklin’s Cider Mill. Additionally, the first 150 in attendance received gift sets from Party at the Mailbox. The unique Detroit-themed boxes contained several Michigan-themed items, including merchandise from Detroit Vs. Everybody. Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey made an appearance toward the event’s end as well.
The Detroit Pistons partnered with More Than A Vote and the We All Vote initiative for the big event. A bright spot from the event was the voter mobilization bus. The Pistons sponsored one of their buses to shuttle citizens in surrounding neighborhoods to the Performance Center so they could vote.
While the event had many highlights, the Pistons Extreme Team are to thank for the biggest one.
As they delighted rally attendees with their dance moves, something unexpected happened. The Extreme Team soon found themselves in a dance battle with several Army and Navy veterans. Two gentlemen called the dancers to the center area where they performed and had an impromptu competition on separate occasions. One of the gentlemen said to several people near, “Tell everyone a 72-year old man showed up those young boys.”
