Saddiq Bey Earns Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Saddiq Bey’s Career Performance against Rival Boston Celtics

The Detroit Pistons Saddiq Bey has been rolling in February. The rookie from Villanova has recently been one of the most intriguing Detroit Pistons to watch. Bey has averaged 13.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, scoring 54.1% from field goal range and 55.6% from the 3 point range in February per Yahoo Sports. On Friday night, Bey had his shining moment when he dropped 30 points, snatched 12 rebounds. Helped lead the Pistons to an upset victory over the Celtics. Bey put up an NBA rookie record by draining seven consecutive 3 point shots in a row.

Per Detroit Free Press, Saddiq Bey after the game, stated, “This is a blessing to play this game each and every day for a living. I try to stay even-keeled as much as possible, stay humble, but know that I gotta continue to build off of it and help my team win. That’s the kind of mentality I have because there’s so many games.”

Coach Dwayne Casey commented that Bey right after his press conference went right back to the gym to get a workout per the Free Press. Also, Coach Casey stated after the game, “He’s a competitor. He’s a special competitor,” Casey said. “He didn’t lose confidence and he stayed with it. Once he gets his feet set, he’s one of those guys, you feel good when he lets it go. He believes in himself. We believe in him. He’s just scratching the surface. I told him after the game – stay hungry, stay humble.” according to the Detroit Pistons. 

Detroit Pistons players have praised Bey coming in every day into the gym with a veteran mentality, according to Omar Sanokfa of the Detroit Free Press. One player in particular, Delon Wright, praised Bey for playing unbelievably, and stating “Come in here and go 7 for 7 from 3? Much needed.” per the Detroit Pistons.

Bey makes Pistons Rookie History

The career night for Saddiq Bey earned him the starting job on Sunday night against the New Orleans Pelicans. Bey keeps on rolling by having 16 points, 4 rebounds, 6 assets, and 3 steals. Detroit Pistons came on top 123 to 112 to defeat the Pelicans.

Saddiq Bey’s performances throughout the week earned him Eastern Conference Player of the week. Bey averaged 17.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals per game in the week according to the NBA. He is the first rookie in Pistons history to score at least 4 three point shots in back to back games per Detroit Pistons. Bey became the Pistons rookie since Kelly Tripucka in 1982 to receive this honor. Detroit hopes to keep the win streak alive against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.
