When Quintez Cephus went down with an injury in Tuesday’s practice, it felt like deja vu for Detroit Lions fans. Here we go again. Cephus going down with an injury.

Well, fans can relax, because he’s going to be ok.

During his Wednesday media session with reporters, Lions head coach Dan Campbell provided an update on Cephus’ condition.

“I think he’ll be okay,” Campbell said. “It was much more optimistic once we got him in, got an image and looks like he’ll be down for, we feel like, a short period of time. But I think he’s gonna be okay, so that’s good.”

Furthermore, Campbell confirmed that Cephus didn’t suffer a knee injury. With Cephus going down, the Lions have signed wide receiver Maurice Alexander. Alexander last saw action in the USFL, playing for the Philadelphia Stars. In ten games, he caught 20 passes for 234 yards, and two touchdowns. Alexander’s signing also provides the Lions more depth with Corey Sutton retiring from the NFL.

The Lions have high hopes still for Quintez Cephus. He showed promise in his rookie season, catching 20 passes for 349 yards, and two touchdowns. His second year, however, was cut short due to a shoulder injury, limiting him to five games last season.

After speaking on Quintez Cephus, Campbell talks James Houston

Earlier this week, Dan Campbell and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn singled out Malcolm Rodriguez and James Houston as two players that they looked forward to seeing in full pads. While there’s been a lot of love for Rodriguez floating around, the chatter on Houston was minimal. Campbell offered his thoughts on Houston’s first week so far.

“There’s a physical nature to him,” said Campbell. “Just my initial impression, I think he’s got a ways to go, but man I’m glad he’s in this building. He’s got some ability. He can bend, he can strike, he’s physical, and he’s going some versatility. He’s just got a little ways to go. That’s all.”

“This is a little bit new to him, ya know. And finding the perfect niche for him as well.”
