UFC Welterweight title contender Leon Edwards took to Twitter to call out Colby Covington. The 18-3 fighter wants his shot at Covington in December and vows to take out the “racist scumbag” should they meet in the octagon. Leon also claimed Covington will join the “I won’t fight Leon” club and will most like run from the challenge.
Edwards has struggled to find an opponent due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Leon was scheduled to fight Tyron Woodley on March 21st, but due to Coronavirus restrictions he was forced to pull out of the fight. Is Edwards channeling his inner Chael Sonnen with this tweet? We can only hope!
Regardless of how you feel about Edwards, the truth is not many in the Welterweight division want to fight him. Sure, Masvidal gave him the “three piece and a soda” combo backstage at UFC on ESPN+ 5, but Edwards has struggled to find an actual opponent since his last fight against Rafael dos Anjos in July 2019. Edwards vs Covington will probably not happen anytime soon considering the UFC wants Covington to fight either Usman or Masvidal, so where does that leave Edwards? Now that COVID-19 restrictions have loosened a little lets hope Leon enters the octagon soon.
