Khabib: My Belt Will Be Taken By The Winner Of Dustin And Conor

Khabib Nurmagomedov Expects The Winner Of McGrevor vs Poirier To Be Crowned The New LW Champ

Lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov expects to hand off the belt to the winner of Dustin Poirier vs Conor McGregor at UFC 257. During a recent interview with Match TV Khabib gave his picks for the top 3 fighters in the division and says the winner of the UFC 257 headliner will get the 155lb belt…

“My belt will be taken by the winner of Dustin and Conor. Top three Lightweight fighters right now? Poirier, McGregor, and Makhachev. He is not in the top-five yet, but those are the best fighters.”

Nurmagomedov Plans To Meet With Dana White Soon To Discuss UFC Future

As far as Khabib returning to the octagon Nurmagomedov says he is staying in touch with UFC President Dana White…

“We are in touch with Dana White, we have not discussed why the belt is not vacant. Apparently they want me to come back. I have been in league for nine years, there is already a history, a fan base, their desires are clear. I will not hide the fact that they offer to return, offer conditions, [and] fighters. We will meet with Dana soon, we will discuss. I would not like there to be a possibility that I will return. The desire of the UFC is understandable to me, I don’t blame them. I will not hide, they are persuading me to return. There is nothing surprising. They offer conditions, fighters – but this is hard to surprise me, they have no one to offer me. Soon, in a couple of weeks, we will meet with Dana and discuss.”

Khabib Nuragomedov

Truth be told there’s only a couple of fight I could see Khabib coming back for. The GSP fight would be a super fight, but GSP would have to come down to 165lbs and make it a catchweight bout. The McGregor fight is always there, but Nurmagomedov has stated before that he has no need to fight Conor again. In all honesty I don’t see Khabib coming back. Once you make a promise to family you stick to your promise. Khabib is a man of his word so I think the UFC and the Lightweight division will need to move on without one of the greatest of all time.
