White: I’m Going To Press Khabib As Hard As I Can For One More

 The SportsRush Khabib Nurmagomedov

“I’m obviously meeting with him because I think that he should fight again.” – Dana White

UFC President Dana White plans to meet with UFC Lightweight champ Khabib Nurmagomedov this week to persuade him to fight one more time in the octagon. Nurmagomedov is 29-0 in his MMA career and is arguably one of the greatest of all time. If it was up to Dana White, the Lightweight GOAT would return for one last fight in 2021…

“I’m obviously meeting with him because I think that he should fight again. Look at what he did to Justin Gaethje. Look at what he’s done to every opponent he has faced. … I think he should fight again and I’m going to press him as hard as I can for one more. As a promoter, you always want to see the best guys in the world, but at the same time, when a guy wants to retire, he probably should. The difference with a guy like Khabib is he’s been through so much, and losing his dad was a major blow to him. Yet, his dad wanted him to hit 30-0.”

Dana White

White also went on to give his thoughts on who he think Khabib should face on his path to 30-0…

“No matter what you think of Conor personally, Conor McGregor is not only one of the best in the world, but one of the best to ever do it. And right now, he’s as focused as he’s ever been. I don’t know if this is going to be the same Conor after the Poirier fight, but if this Conor sticks around for the next year, how do you not do Khabib vs. Conor again?”

Khabib Doesn’t Fight For Money, He Fights For Legacy

Khabib Nurmagomedov is not your typical fighter. The truth is, Khabib has enough money to never fight again. When Khabib announced his retirement in October after defeating Justin Gaethje most fans were shocked, but it wasn’t out of the realm of possiblilities considering Khabib’s family circumstances. After losing his father in 2020, Khabib made a promise to his mother that he wouldn’t fight again. The only problem is he promised his father he would go 30-0. Khabib fights for legacy. He’s mentioned it a million times and unlike most fighters who say that but then go for big money I know Khabib is telling the truth. It is in his DNA. I honestly believe Khabib is retired for good, but if he does come back it won’t be for Conor McGregor or Dustin Poirier.

The only fight I could see Khabib coming back for would be GSP. Although that is considered a “super fight”, its not something I want to see. GSP hasn’t fought since defeating Michael Bisping at UFC 217 in October 2017. This fight would most likely be at Catchweight at 165lbs as GSP wouldn’t come down to 155 and Khabib shouldn’t have to go up to 170. There’s too many what ifs to even try to put together the Khabib vs GSP fight and honestly Khabib has done enough to prove he is one of the greatest of all time.
