On Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski The Boston Celtics announced that Danny Ainge would resign as president of basketball operations. The team also announced that Brad Stevens would take over the job as president of operations and not coach the Celtics next season. The main question is, “who will the Celtics hire as their next head coach?” Here are some candidates that the Celtics are looking at this offseason.

Jason Kidd is one of the candidates to be the next head coach of the Celtics per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Kidd has been a coach in the NBA for seven years. He started his coaching career as head coach of the Nets for one season; they would be the head coach of Bucks for four seasons. Kidd was known for developing players on the Bucks, such as Kris Middleton and Giannis.

After coaching for the Bucks in 2019, Kidd agreed to be an assistant coach for the Lakers. He was on the coaching staff that won the 2020 NBA championship with the Lakers in the NBA bubble. Also, there have been rumors that Kidd would be a candidate for other head coaching positions this offseason.

Another candidate the Celtics will look at is Lloyd Pierce, according to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. Pierce worked his way up in the NBA coaching ladder. He started as an assistant at Santa Clara University, then moved on to be an assistant in the NBA. Pierce was an assistant coach in the NBA for 11 seasons until he earned the head coach position in Atlanta in 2018. Pierce was fired in the middle of this season due to the team having a losing record of 14-20 to start the season. He has not been rumored for any other coaching positions besides the Celtics.

Jerome Allen

Celtics are looking at candidates for head coach within the organization as well. ESPN’s Marc Spears reported that the Celtics would be interviewing current Celtics assistant coach Jerome Allen for the head coach position. Before coming to the Celtics, Allen was the head coach at the University of Pennsylvania for six seasons. Back in the day, Allen played for UPenn during his college career. After his time at UPenn, Allen became an assistant coach for the Celtics in 2015 under head coach Brad Stevens.

The Boston Celtics head coaching job will be one of the hottest jobs to earn this summer. The Celtics have young talent, with Jason Tatum and Jaylen Brown playing at the forward positions. Tatum shined in their last few games and had two 50 point games this past postseason. Brown’s season was cut short due to injury, and he did not play in the playoffs this season. The team has made it to the Eastern Conference Finals in three out of the past six seasons but has not made it to the NBA Finals since 2010. The last time the Celtics made the Finals, they lost seven games to the Los Angeles Lakers.
