Bijan Robinson Models Running Style After Barry Sanders

I have been on record as saying I only want Brad Holmes to draft Defense with the Detroit Lions first 3 picks in the upcoming NFL Draft.  Then here comes Running Back Bijan Robinson to pull at my heart strings.

The NFL combine was this past weekend in Indianapolis. Bijan Robinson is the top rated RB and there was a lot of excitement to see what his measurables are.  Don’t worry this isn’t another article where all the writer does is list stats.

But, for those wondering, Bijan’s day looked like this:

  • 40-Yard Dash – 4.46 Seconds
  • 10-Yard Split -1.52 Seconds
  • Vertical Jump – 37’’
  • Broad Jump – 10’ 4’’

I think we all knew he would have an impressive showing. Robinson has been most compared to Saquon Barkley leading into the NFL Draft.

The comp Bijan Robinson would love is Barry Sanders. Who wouldn’t want to be compared to arguably the greatest running back of all time?  Bijan shared his love for the former Detroit Lions RB and shared some insight about how he has molded his game after Sanders.

“Barry Sanders is probably the best running back, in my opinion, to ever do it. For me, as a kid, I always enjoyed watching his highlight tapes…. I’ve always just set out to try to mimic his moves.”

Bijan Robinson goes on to break down some tape comparisons to Barry and his running style.

As a die hard Detroit Lions fan its nice to see the lore of Barry Sanders still impacts young players of today. Especially when it’s a guy that can actually physically do some of what Barry did.

Although Bijan Robinson didn’t mention wanting to be drafted by the Lions in that interview, I’m sure he would love to don the Honolulu Blue and Silver just like his favorite player did.

With the way Detroit ran the ball last season and how dominate the O-Line can be any RB would love to be drafted by the Lions.

While I’m still all about drafting on the defensive side of the ball this year. If Brad Holmes calls Bijan’s name, Ill be happy to know we got a guy that WANTS to be in Detroit and will LOVE a chance to be close with Barry.
