BREAKING: ISAIAH STEWART AND DETROIT PISTONS AGREE TO $64M CONTRACT

Isaiah Stewart and the Detroit Pistons agreed to a four-year, $60 million rookie contract extension according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

The contract has a team option in year four and can reach a total value of $64 million with incentives reported by Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press.

Some fans were surprised by the total annual value of the deal, but understand based on the market for similar players like Naz Reid and Grant Williams. They both received contracts in the annual range of $12M-$13.5M which shows the Pistons think a little more of what Stewart can become.

The biggest question mark facing Stewart now is can he continue to show marked improvement with regard to stretching the floor. In the 2022-23 season he averaged a career high 11.3 points, 8.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists in fifty games played. In that time Stewart increased his three pointers attempted from .75 per game, to 4.1 on 32.7% shooting!

That is a big jump for a player who wasn’t seen as a floor spacer prior and more of a paint bruiser. But being an undersized power forward can create disadvantages that a more versatile player, like Stewart, can make up for.

But he must prove it with the signature now dry on the brand new deal.
