BREAKING: Lamar Jackson Requests Trade from Ravens

45

Lamar Jackson took to Twitter Monday morning to announce that he requested a trade from the Baltimore Ravens. According to Jackson, he requested a trade on March 2.

On March 7, the Ravens used the non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson, which means Jackson could still negotiate contracts with other teams. If another team were to offer a contract sheet, the Ravens have the chance to match it. If the Ravens choose not to, the Ravens would get that team’s next two first-round picks.

The Ravens knowingly tagged Jackson AFTER he requested a trade. Very interesting.

It seemed as through the Ravens would not pay the fully-guaranteed contract Jackson was asking for. Now, things are starting to get more ugly than ever, and we are getting closer to seeing Lamar Jackson in a different NFL uniform.

Some teams you may expect to be in those conversations would be the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, New York Jets, and Washington Commanders. Sending Jackson to the NFC would be the most convenient. These teams have the salary cap space and draft capital to make a move for the MVP quarterback.

The Ravens had no plans of trading Jackson, but their hand has been forced. Instead of stalled contract negotiations, we may now see stalled trade talks. Baltimore will want to get the most out of their MVP quarterback. Teams will have to meet that price, or a trade will not happen anytime soon.

Got to love the drama as we get closer to the NFL Draft. We will see what happens.
