Bruce Brown and his time in Detroit have come to an end. The two-year guard is heading to Brooklyn in the Pistons’ first off-season transaction.
Bruce Brown is leaving the Midwest and heading East.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons are trading the two-year guard to the Brooklyn Nets for F Dzanan Musa and a 2021-second round pick.
The trade of Brown to the Nets is mildly shocking. Mainly because of the several reported transactions the Pistons are expected to make, his name did not come up in any of them. Along with that, Brown is arguably the best defender on the roster.
Brown saw improvement last season; his second year under coach Dwane Casey. He averaged 8.9 points, four assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Who the heck is Dzanan Musa?
As Bruce Brown is heading to BK, Dzanan Musa will be arriving in the Motor City soon.
If fans look solely at Musa’s stats, there isn’t much to get excited about initially. In 40 games last season, he averaged 4.8 points. He’s not the defender that Brown is and an even worse shooter. He shot 37% from the field and an abysmal 24% from beyond the arc.
Saying that Musa has struggled so far in the NBA would be an understatement.
It’s quite the head-scratcher of why the Pistons’ made this move for Musa, who was the 29th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. However, let’s look at some potential positives with this move. He’s a 6’9 forward, great ball-handler, good in pick-and-roll situations, and a natural scorer. In 2018, draft experts compared him to Bojan Bogdanovic, a type of player that the Pistons need for their depth.
All NBA transactions will be official after the moratorium period ends at noon ET. This trade will mark the first transaction by the new Pistons’ general manager Troy Weaver.
