C.J. Moore Returns to Detroit

The Detroit Lions welcome special teams ace C.J. Moore back to the D.  The Lions officially signed Moore to the active roster on Tuesday.

The move comes after the Lions waived wide receiver Maurice Alexander on Monday, leaving an open spot on the roster. Moore will not only help on special teams, but will aid an injured secondary.  With Tracy Walker and Bobby Price on injured reserved, and Ifeatu Melifonwu currently out with an ankle injury, they can definitely use the help.

The 26-year-old signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in 2019.  He played in all 16 games during his rookie season and eventually grew into a top contributor on special teams over three seasons. He was exclusive to the Lions organization until he was released with an injury settlement in early September. Last week, Moore signed with the Houston Texans’ practice squad.

In addition to re-signing C.J. Moore, the Lions made a few other roster changes.  The team released defensive lineman Bruce Hector from the practice squad and replaced him with safety J.R. Reed. Reed was originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2020 by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has since bounced around to four other teams. He was most recently with the Las Vegas Raiders practice squad, but was released in late September.

The Detroit Lions will take on the Miami Dolphins this Sunday at 1pm ET.
