Detroit Lions V. Packers: Staff Picks and Score Predictions

91

The Detroit Lions will host the Green Bay Packers in Ford Field today at 1pm ET.  The Lions are desperately looking to snap a five-game losing streak.

This game follows both the firing of defensive backs Coach Aubrey Pleasant and the trading of tight end T.J. Hockenson to the Minnesota Vikings.  While a week may not be enough time to show progress, the eyes will be on the secondary and the tight end room.  Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson says they hope the production doesn’t change despite the loss of Hockenson.

We’ll miss him, there’s no question. In terms of him as a player, it’s an opportunity for other guys to step up. Just like you said, (Lions TE) Brock (Wright), (Lions TE) James (Mitchell) will take advantage of it. We have a couple other tight ends that will get opportunities as well. And we’re hoping to see the same production from that unit that we’ve been seeing.”

Dan Campbell spoke to the media earlier this week on the trade, and he says the team may even be better without Hockenson.

“Yeah, look honestly I look at it for it’s an opportunity for other guys and as good as T.J. was, there’s things that we’ll be able to do better potentially. Having other guys on the field. I mean, that’s – there is always some of that give and take no matter what player’s out there.”

Today’s game will put that statement to the test.  Brock Wright is one of the players expected to take a bigger role in place of Hockenson moving forward.  He is listed as questionable due to concussion protocol, but he is expected to play.  D’Andre Swift is also, once again, listed as questionable.  He is also expected to play in the game.
