The Detroit Tigers look to reverse their fortune against an AL Central foe.

After taking the last game of the series against the Los Angeles Angels, the Detroit Tigers look to go .500 on their current road trip. Detroit is 2-5 so far in the month of September and is currently 52-85.  Here are the pitching matchups for the series.

Friday: LHP Joey Wentz  (0-1, 8.10 ERA) vs LHP Daniel Lynch (4-9, 4.82 ERA)

Saturday: RHP Matt Manning (1-2, 3.86 ERA) vs RHP Jonathan Heasley (3-7, 4.98 ERA)

Sunday: LHP Tyler Alexander(3-9, 5.23 ERA) vs RHP Brady Singer (7-4, 3.38 ERA)

Wentz, fresh off a rehab stint at West Michigan and Toledo, will get the start this evening. Wentz will have the small advantage as he has never faced the Royals in his career.

Detroit Tigers tidbits:

  • Detroit is 5-8 against Kansas City this season. They have once again struggled against division rivals, going 23-38.
  • Eric Haase put up a slash line of .546/ .546/ 1.000 (6-for-11) in the series against the Angels. While much of that came in the game yesterday, a recent stat on Baseball Savant puts Haase among the top 15 catchers in pop time at 1.94.
  • To make room for Joey Wentz, Detroit optioned Josh Lester back to Toledo. Second baseman Jonathan Schoop was activated off the 10-IL and will rejoin the team tonight.
