Detroit Tigers youth lead to win in Anaheim

Kerry Carpenter and Ryan Kreidler go back to back in the 9th inning as the Detroit Tigers take the last game of a three-game set against Los Angeles Angels.

Historically speaking, the Detroit Tigers have not done well when they play the Angels in Anaheim. While Detroit won the series against the Angels on the road in 2019, prior to that, the last time Detroit has won a series was back in 1994.

However, Detroit’s recent call-ups did the damage  Eric Haase, who went 5-for-5, Spencer Torkelson, Kreidler and Carpenter all went yard in the 5-4 win. Detroit improves to 52-85 on the season. Haase set a career high in hits in one game with his effort.

Carpenter went 2-for-4 on the day but Kreidler, who went to UCLA, about an hour and half away off the 405, chose the right time to hit his first major league home run.

Detroit overcame Mike Trout, who homered in every game in the series. Drew Hutchison pitched four innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and generated 10 swings and misses. Soto pitched the 9th for his 25th save on the season.

The Tigers are tomorrow before they head to Kansas City to start a three-game series. Joey Wentz, fresh off the IL, will get the start in the opener on Friday.
