Edgar vs Sandhagen Could Determine Next Title Contender At 135lbs

A key match up in the 135lb division is set as former Lightweight champ Frankie Edgar will take on #2 ranked Bantamweight Cory Sandhagen. Edgar is coming off of an impressive win over Pedro Munhoz. Sandhagen on the other hand is coming off of a 2nd round TKO victory over Marlon Moraes. This fight is huge for the Bantamweight division.

Edgar Is Leaving His Mark In The Bantamweight Division

Franke Edgar is a legend in MMA. No debate. The former Lightchamp not only fought at 155, but has fought at 145 and now 135lbs. Frankie’s fight against Pedro Munoz proved he can hang with the best at 135 and it just might be his new home. Sure, cutting down to 135lbs is no easy task, but Frankie earned a FOTN bonus for his win over Munoz in August. Making his debut in the Bantamweight division in 2020, Edgar proved it is where he belongs. Although Frankie is 39 years old, he does have a legit shot at the belt in the Bantamweight division with a win over Sandhagen.

Corey Sandhagen is as tough as they come with a record of 13-2 in his professional MMA career. The Sandman has proved he’s the #2 ranked Bantamweight for a reason. Sure, he lost to Aljamain Sterling in a UFC Bantamweight title eliminator in June. He also bounced back in October 2020 and TKO’d Moraes in less than 2 rounds. Although I would’ve loved to see the UFC run back the Sterling fight, Edgar vs Sandhagen is going to be a barn burner.

So far the UFC fight Night booked for Feburary 6th only has two fights on the card. Edgar vs Sandhagen and a Heavyweight showdown between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov.
