Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire

54

Week 4 has come and gone. Its now time to look at Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire Pick Ups! Anson Wells from Woodward Sports takes a look at who you should be targeting this week.

Another week of Fantasy Football goes by, and another collection of players gets injured opening things up on the waiver wire for week 5. At this point in the fantasy season, owners sporting competitive records will be all over the waiver wire. So make sure this week’s additions hit for your squad.

QUARTERBACK

Kirk Cousins MIN –

Minnesota is a run first team, but the Spartan cannon still resides behind center. He has found a replacement for Stephon Diggs finally with Justin Jefferson…now all he has to do is discover Irv Smith Jr! He has 2 plus matchups ahead of him…grab him if you need him. But don’t be surprised if you keep him.

Teddy Bridgewater CAR –

Teddy is barely owned in leagues (10%) and he may end up being a solid QB for the second half of the season. He is being forced to figure out his WR corps without CMC available, as well as his solid supporting staff of running backs. Figure in his ability to get you points using his wheels, the impending return of CMC makes Teddy look like a Bear to finish the season.

Last Week’s Picks:
I hope you were able to get Herbert onto your roster. He’s gonna be a good one.
Justin Herbert 290/3/1 A-
Nick Foles – 249/1/1 B-

RUNNING BACK

Josh Kelley LAC (Rookie) –

If this guy is still available in your league, I apologize for not recommending him last week. Lead LA ball carrier Austin Ekeler is gonna miss some time and that means Kelley is next man up. Herbert makes this offense suddenly dangerous again, and the rookie looks to be the next to benefit . (See Keenan Allen)

D’Ernest Johnson CLE –

The average fantasy football player probably isn’t familiar with D’Ernest. But that doesnt matter. All that matters is that Cleveland is a two back team. Exit Chubb…Enter Johnson. Add in Kareen Hunt being dinged up, and you get a no brainer. I’d even start him in many leagues this week.

Last Week Picks:

Sorry, I was a week or two early…Hold on to both of these guys if you can.
Carlos Hyde (Injured) F
Anthony McFarland (COVID) F

WIDE RECEIVER

Tim Patrick DEN –

Thursday Night saw two relative unknowns capitalize on the injuries ahead of them. On the Denver side, oft overlooked Patrick once again got some playing time due to injury, and once again cashed in on it. Except this time, I don’t see this being a 1 or 2 game trend. Especially if young Rypien keeps the job.

Jeff Smith NYJ –

The second guy was an undrafted speedster for the Jets known simply as, Jeff Smith. Now I admit, he’s a bit of a reach. He wasn’t even in the waiver system in one of my Fantasy Football leagues. But he has a tremendous spark score and looked to have some real chemistry with Sam Darnold. Darnold needs some chemistry bad in his life. Look for him to keep going the way of THE JEFF.

Last Week’s Picks:
If you got any one of last week’s picks, you’re a happy camper.
Justin Jefferson 4/103 and Pro Football Focus’ #1 rated wide receiver A
Brandon Aiyuk 2/18 and a 38 yard TD run B+
Tee Higgins 4/77 and a 13 yard run B

TIGHT END

Rob Gronkowski TB –

Return of the Gronk! Well…maybe. He hasn’t looked anything like his old self, but yet another injury clears the way for this Legend to have one final fantasy relevant run. Brady threw 5 TD’s last week…there are way worse options currently starting on many fantasy teams.

Austin Hooper CLE –

Hooper seems to finally be integrating himself into the Cleveland offense. His 5/31/1 added to the onslaught Baker put together against Dallas. I don’t love him, but I imagine the tight end cupboard is pretty bare in most leagues by this point.

Last Week’s Fantasy Football Picks:
Mo Alie-Cox 1/13/1 C-
