Team of Fishermen Caught Cheating with Weighted Fish
The biggest cheating scandal of the year in sports happened on Friday. And it was in a sport you’ve probably never watched.
Anglers Chase Cominsky and Jake Runyan were caught with weighted balls in the fish they reeled in. The added poundage helped place them at the top of the leaderboard in the Lake Erie Walleye Trail Championship.
After being declared the winners of Friday’s event and the season-long championship, officials inspected the fish Cominsky and Runyan caught. After cutting open the fish the officials pulled multiple weighted balls out of the fish. This turned their competition who was spectating into an angry mob.

The reputation of the fishermen was common knowledge?
After watching the video it sounds like these guys might not be welcomed back next year. With that kind of reaction I was amazed that someone didn’t take a swing at that guy. Side note, why did he continue standing there in silence after he was caught red-handed? I would’ve been sprinting to my car as soon as the first weight came out.
If you listen closely between all the F-bombs you might’ve heard a few people mention that they knew the pair had cheated before.
According to the Toledo Blade, in 2021, Cominsky and Runyan were disqualified from the Fall Brawl event after they had won because one of the anglers failed a polygraph test.
Yes, you read that correctly. A polygraph test. I had no idea that it was a thing at a fishing event for competitors to take a lie-detector test after fishing.
What a world we live in right? We can’t get Barry Bonds strapped to a polygraph test. But Gilligan and the skipper have to take one after a competitive fishing event.
It goes without saying this has to be a 30 for 30. We just got one on the tuck rule. A play every one knew was wrong at the time. Let alone 20 years later. An hour-long documentary breaking down the biggest cheating scandal in competitive fishing history? It must be done.
