I’m tired of the Detroit Lions even in victory

75

I’m tired of the Detroit Lions. Close but no cigar. Lions lose. Great offense. Lions lose. Defense rebounds. Lions lose. Fans see hope in tight games. Lions lose. I’m tired of the Detroit Lions.

Even after a 15-9 victory over the Green Bay Packers I remain tired of the Lions.

This is no reason to celebrate. The Lions simply kept up with their one win a month pace under Dan Campbell. And didn’t Campbell try to give a victory back that the Packers wanted no part of?

This victory over the Packers wasn’t much of an accomplishment. It was the Packers fifth straight loss and as Yahoo Sports put it, the lowly, Lions have a brighter future.

I’m tired of hear fans squak when the Lions celebrate their monthly win. How about winning three games in a row? Making the playoffs again? How about winning a playoff game, something they have not done in 32 years?

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers spent much of the game Sunday’s game pouting and stomping his feet like a toddler. I don’t know if he was mad at his receivers who ran left when he threw right. Or I don’t know if Rodgers was yelling at himself for underthrowing receives who were four and five yards in the clear.

“Can’t lose a game like that against that team,” Rodgers grumbled. “So that’s gonna hurt for a while.”

Detroit Lions since 2000

Ever since Chicago Bears kicker Paul Edinger kicked that 53-yard field goal in 2000 to knock the Lions out of the playoffs we’ve seen a mediocre franchise turn into the worst in sports.

How does a 0-16 season in 2008 sound to you?

How do you like a .305 win parentage ever since Edinger booted that kick?

SOL is as linked to Detroit as Faygo, Vernors and Belle Isle.

I’m tired of the Detroit Lions.

Sheila Hamp came out the other day and said the Lions are not only in a rebuild, but they are in a tear down. Here is my question. How can the Lions be in a rebuild when nothing was ever built?

The Lions were in a rebuild after the Edinger kick in 2000?

They were in a rebuild when Matt Millen came on board. The Lions were in a rebuild when he left.

They were in a rebuild under Martin Mayhew, Jim Caldwell, Quintricia and now Dan Campbell.

My Epiphany

It hit me after the Miami loss. I’m tired of the Detroit Lions. It is Ground Hogs day around here and we don’t even see it.

Angry fans bombard me with Tweets, emails and shouts begging for me to change my tune about the Lions. I will when the Lions change their tune about losing.

All summer a worker at the car wash banged on my car window to tell me the Lions were going to be very good this season. I get this a lot.

Finally, I asked him how many games the Lions were going to win. “Fifteen plus, plus,” he said.

Now that the season has begun this guy has disappeared. No more taps on the window. Stopped bragging. No more predictions.

I wonder what happened to car wash guy. Did he get fired or is he too ashamed to face me?
I am tired of the Detroit Lions.

I fell for the fake. A friend of mine got into a debate with a Chicago Bears fan.

She made a bet on who would win the most games. The Lions? Or the Bears? She is a big Lions fan and asked should she place a $100 wager on the Lions. I not only said “yes” but questioned what fool would bet on the Bears?

We are approaching the midway point of the season and the scoreboard reads Bears 3, Lions 2.

Now I cannot call my friend because I am ashamed.

I am tired of the Detroit Lions.
