Is Jon Jones Moving To Heavyweight To Avoid Blachowicz?

14

Newly crowned UFC Light Heavyweight champ Jan Blachowicz is questioning Jones recent move to Heavyweight. During a recent interview on Submission Radio, Blachowicz admitted that Jones is his next best opponent, but the possibility of that match ever happening is slim to none.

For me, the best opponent would be Jon Jones, but I think this is not real. It’s not gonna happen so I think that my next opponent is gonna be the winner between Teixeira and Santos. But also, Adesanya also is really good. So we will see. We’ll have to wait a little bit but for me, personally, the best would be Jon Jones. He promised me this fight after I knocked out Corey (Anderson) and I’m waiting for him. I believe in the future that I’ll catch him somewhere, some day, anywhere.

Jones Avoiding Blachowicz At All Cost

Jones made the announcement that he’s vacating the Light Heavyweight division moving to Heavyweight in August. Jan Blachowicz and Dominick Reyes battled it out for the LHW belt on September 26th with Blachowicz stopping Reyes in the second round. Since then, it’s come into question who Blachowicz should face next. It’s clear that Jones wants a new challenge, but I honestly believe Jones is avoiding both Blachowicz and Reyes. When Jones and Reyes fought back in February 2020 it was quite possibly the closest decision win of Jones career. Some would even say he lost that fight, but regardless we as MMA fans can’t control the judges and the decisions they make.

Lets be honest, Jones razor thin victory over Reyes made him question his invincibility in the LHW division. Moving to Heavyweight means slower fighters for Jones and a whole new division to take on. It also means he could avoid Blachowicz and his devastating knock out power. Blachowicz called out Jones after his big first-round win over Corey Anderson on February 15th, and although Jones did seem interested at the time 6 months later he made the move to Heavyweight. I do think Blachowicz is going to be the Light Heavyweight champ for a long time, but don’t get too excited of a possible Blachowicz and Jones match any time soon.
