While most players use their bye week to rest and relax, Detroit Lions fullback Jason Cabinda spent his time mentoring students in Detroit.
Cabinda is no stranger to the community. He regularly visits students at different schools, speaking to them about the importance of getting a good education and trying hard in school. This week: Priest Elementary-Middle School.
The 26-year-old opened up about his journey to the NFL. He shared the struggles and the reality of how much work it takes to be a professional football player. He also emphasized to them that football isn’t forever. Cabinda told the students that the average football career only lasts three and a half years. He used this to paint a picture of how important getting a good education is.
The students were very attentive and interacted with the player. He asked them all what they wanted to be when they grew up. He even shared with them that when he was in 2nd grade, he wrote down that he wanted to be a football star when he grew up. The smiles on the student’s faces lit up the room. They were ecstatic to have him in their school and to have the opportunity to speak with him. Several students rushed to his side when he was done speaking to take pictures and ask for autographs.
It’s safe to say Cabinda left a lasting impression on these students.
