Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Báez is offering food to victims of Hurricane Fiona.
Detroit Tigers shortstop Javier Báez is assisting his native Puerto Rico by giving away free food, as first reported by TMZ. Báez will offer food through his taco stand, Taquiza. Many places are without power and running water, and Báez is doing what he can do to give back. As of Wednesday, 1.1 million people are without power, according to PowerOutageUS.com.
Fiona was reclassified as a Category 4 storm this morning as it was heading towards Bermuda. The island saw hurricane conditions for 48 hours. Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi said he has signed an executive order that would access to food across the island. According to the story, they are working on distributing over 1.7 million pounds of food.

Báez, who recently accepted to play for Team Puerto Rico for the 2023 World Baseball Classic, is one of the island’s proudest citizens. Recently, Báez along with several other Tigers players and coaches wore the number 21 for Roberto Clemente Day. The Hall of Fame outfielder was known for his great humanitarian efforts.
