Jonatan Berggren Continues to Shine For Red Wings

59

The Detroit Red Wings lineup have had huge holes fill to start the year. The absence of Jakub Vrana and both Filip Zadina and Tyler Bertuzzi missing time with injuries along with Elmer Soderblom. With the team seeing so many different lineups just 13 games in. An opportunity arose for former 2nd round draft pick Jonatan Berggren. An opportunity in which, he has seized every moment of.

After a great year with Grand Rapids racking up 64 points (23G, 43A) in 70 games in his first season in the AHL. Berggren has since hit the ground running with the Red Wings. Tallying 8 points (3G, 5A) in his first 12 NHL games. The chemistry between him and former Grand Rapids teammate Joe Veleno has been a bright spot, they’ve been truly a much needed spark for the bottom six of this lineup.

Should Jonatan Berggren Stay With Red Wings’ When Injuries Settle?

Through the 12 game sample size and given the production we’ve seen. There is no question, that Jonatan Berggren should finish the season in Detroit. If he had started the year with the Red Wings’ with pace he’s at through 12 games, he would be tied for 5th in points with Andrew Copp.  You could argue given the lineup right now Berggren should see more ice time. His playmaking ability is clearly at a NHL level,  also has a knack for being in the right spot at the right time in the offensive zone. Jonatan has been adapting more and more to the NHL style of play, with that being said. I believe he stays with the Red Wings, and if the production continues look for his role to increase.
