Ricardo Lamas made the official retirement announcement on the MMA Junkie Radio show on Monday. Lamas finished his career with an impressive 20-8 record. The Chicago native said on the MMA Junkie Radio show that he has been thinking of retirement for more than 3 years…

“Since my fight with Jason Knight, which was a few years back, I’ve kind of been contemplating. I remember before that fight I told my wife, I was like, ‘If I have a good performance in this fight, I might just call it a career.’ But the thing with this sport is you have a good performance, and you have a win, and then you want another one. And then it becomes like an addiction and you just keep chasing those victories.”

Lamas last fought in the octagon just a couple weeks ago at UFC Fight Night: Smith vs. Rakić and beat UFC newcomer Bill Algeo via unanimous decision. Ricardo leaves behind a lengthy MMA career spanning over 12 years. With notable over Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson, and Darren Elkins, Lamas leaves the sport as a fighter who left everything in the octagon.
