Lions Hire Former Head Coach John Fox as Defensive Consultant

The Detroit Lions have added former head coach John Fox to their coaching staff as a senior defensive consultant. This move comes on the heels of the John Scott Jr. hiring, as the Lions seek to strengthen their struggling defense and build on their promising offense.

Fox Brings Extensive Experience to Lions

With over 16 seasons as a head coach, Fox brings extensive experience to the Lions. He previously coached for the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Bears, reaching the Super Bowl with the Panthers and Broncos. Fox also has a background in defense, having served as a defensive coordinator for the Oakland Raiders and New York Giants.

Lions Defense in Need of Improvement

The Lions’ defense struggled last season, finishing last in yards allowed and tied for 28th in points allowed. With the loss of their most senior defensive assistant, the Lions’ coaching staff is predominantly young. Fox’s experience and expertise could provide the boost needed to turn things around.

Fox to Focus on 4-3 Defense with Quarters Coverage

Fox specializes in coaching the 4-3 defense with quarters coverage, a system that could work well with the Lions’ primarily 4-3 set with some 3-4 principles. This expertise could be crucial in shoring up the Lions’ defense and improving their pass defense, which was a significant weakness last season.

Campbell Building Talented Coaching Staff

Head coach Dan Campbell has been working to build a talented coaching staff around him, including former players. Despite the Lions’ struggles last season, their offense showed promise, and the addition of Fox to the defensive staff could be a significant step forward for the team.

A Significant Hire

The hiring of John Fox as a senior defensive consultant by the Detroit Lions is a significant addition to their coaching staff. With his extensive experience and expertise in coaching defense, Fox could prove crucial in shoring up the Lions’ struggling unit. Lions fans can be optimistic about the team’s future with this latest addition to their coaching staff.
