Early this morning, a tweet from Adam Schefter reported that the Detroit Lions are releasing quarterback David Blough. That leaves Jared Goff as the lone ranger. The news comes not even 12 hours after the premiere of episode 4 of Hard Knocks.
Lions are interested in bringing David Blough back to their practice squad, but they will be adding a new backup QB to Jared Goff, per source.

According to Adam Schefter, the Lions are interested in keeping Blough on their practice squad.
However, the Lions announced the signing of Sudfeld.

Who is Nate Sudfeld?
The 28-year-old quarterback played college football at Indiana. The Washington Redskins drafted Nate in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft. Sudfeld has played a total of 4 regular season games with no starts. Those four games took place over a 4-year time span with the Philadelphia Eagles. He was released from the 49ers yesterday when General Manager John Lynch announced that rookie Brock Purdy had made the team’s 53-man roster.
This move doesn’t come as a surprise. Both David Blough and Tim Boyle had disappointing appearances in the preseason finale. Dan Campbell said after the game that he had “clarity” on the backup quarterback situation.
In Monday’s press conference he addressed the quarterback conversations saying, “I think it’s what anybody would think for the position and is it somebody we know can come in if something happens you know that they can steer the ship and they can sustain and win some games. If you lose your starter for two or three games can they win those games for you is what you’ve got to decide. So, that’s what we’re wrestling with.”
It’s clear Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell worked tirelessly on this roster and the possible moves they wanted to make. Dan Campbell stressed the importance of having as much talent as possible on the team saying, “We’re looking – anywhere we feel like we can upgrade since we’re two on the claim list, we’re looking.”
Claiming period for players placed on waivers at the final roster reduction will expire at noon today. After Noon, teams will sign practice squad players.
