Major League Baseball to make rule changes in 2023

41

Some big changes are coming to Major League Baseball in the distant future.

Major League Baseball is looking to quicken up the pace of the game. As first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN, these changes will take place next season.

Here are the changes that will go into effect in 2023:

  • the banning of shifts,
  • A pitch clock of 15 seconds
  • The bases being increased from 15 inches to 18 inches.
  • The league is also limiting the number of times the pitcher can attempt a pick-off throw in addition to stepping off the mound.

The MLB will look to speed things up in 2023, and hopefully the addition of a pitch clock, as well as a limitation on pick-off attempts, will aid in doing that. Minor league baseball has already seen a majority of these changes, with the pitch clock reducing the time of games this season.
