The Michigan Wolverines vs. Maryland Terrapins football this Saturday will not occur due to the current uptick in COVID-19 cases.
The University of Michigan Athletic Department sent out a press release Wednesday afternoon to announce the Michigan vs. Maryland football game’s cancellation this Saturday. There will not be a rescheduling of the matchup this season between the two schools.
Additionally, at the advice of local health officials, Michigan will pause all of its in-person football activities until Monday.
“The decision by our medical professionals to stop practices and cancel this Saturday’s game against Maryland was made with the health, safety, and welfare of the student-athletes, coaches, and staff as our utmost priority,” said Warde Manuel, Michigan’s Athletic Director.
“We have seen an increase in the number of student-athletes unavailable to compete due to positive tests and associated contact tracing due to our most recent antigen and PCR testing results.”
The university states that it will continue to test its players daily. Lastly, practices will not resume until Monday, Dec. 7th at earliest.
Michigan is currently 2-4 this season.
