Monday Detroit Tigers notes: Miggy hits another milestone

76

The role of Miguel Cabrera for 2023 remains unseen, the Arizona Fall League starts today and Gregory Soto hits 30 saves in our Monday Detroit Tigers notes.

Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera has been headlining the news over the last several days. The first time he came up was when new President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris confirmed Cabrera will be back in 2023.

The reaction on Twitter was mixed, as some thought it was a waste of a roster spot. However you feel about it, there is an entire off-season to go before any real conclusions can be made. But the sense is his role will be changing.

Miguel’s 1000th home game at Comerica Park

The Tigers final home game on Sunday saw Cabrera reach another milestone. It was his 1,000th game at Comerica Park. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Eric Haase homered for the second day in a row, and Victor Reyes added a home run in the 8th.

It’s been 10 years?

In the last bit of Miguel Cabrera news, 10 years ago today, he secured the first Triple Crown since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967. Cabrera produced an impressive stat line to achieve the award: .330, 44 HR, 139 RBI. Aaron Judge is chasing the Triple Crown right now, but he is trailing Minnesota’s Luis Arraez by four points (.315 to .311).

Gregory Soto joins Willie Hernandez

Left-hander Gregory Soto earned his 30th save of the season in Sunday’s win. He becomes the ninth Detroit Tigers pitcher to hit 30 saves in one year, and the first left-hander with a 30-save season since Willie Hernandez in 1985.

Detroit Tigers in Arizona Fall League update

On Monday, several Detroit Tigers prospects made their Arizona Fall League debut. Colt Keith, who is one of the more talented infield prospects in the Tigers system, had two hits, a walk, and an RBI. Prior to a shoulder injury, Keith was hitting .301/ .370/ .544 in 48 games. Parker Meadows, who put himself back on the Tigers prospect map this year, hit a long home run.
