MSU Adds Two New Commits to the 2024 Class

There are two new commitments in the MSU 2024 class. Reggie Powers, a three-star safety, made his announcement Wednesday afternoon, and a few hours later, three-star CB Camren Campbell also committed.

Reggie Powers Breakdown

Powers is a 6’1 and 196-pound safety from Dayton, Ohio. He has offers from Ohio State, Louisville, and others and is the 19th-ranked prospect from Ohio. Powers brings the heat and hits extremely hard with speed. In his junior campaign, Powers had 80 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and four forced fumbles. Harlon Barnett continues to bring in safeties with hidden talent like Malik Spencer, and we’ll see if Powers will be next in line.

Camren Campbell’s Breakdown

Campbell is ranked a three-star on On3 and listed at 6’1 and 175 pounds. The new MSU commit comes from Tampa Bay, Florida, and plays his high school ball at Tampa Bay Tech. Campbell also has offers from Kansas, Ole Miss, Louisville, and Minnesota. It was a 4.42 40-yard dash that caught the attention of a lot of schools and showed how quick he can be at the corner position. Though most recruiting services have him unranked, it seems as though he will trend into 3-star territory.

MSU 2024 Recruiting Overview

The Spartans haven’t been able to land a high school prospect commitment since April, so it’s definitely reassuring to see these two commits. With the June OV season well under way, there are certainly going to be more commitments coming in. The priority under Mel Tucker has been to improve the secondary, and that has clearly been an emphasis this offseason. Harlon Barnett and Scottie Hazelton both want to improve the defense and find those prospects that other teams are overlooking. Last recruiting cycle, MSU shot for the moon and missed badly on some recruits. Now that mindset has altered back to the Dantonio ways of getting guys that others are finding and developing them.
