The Detroit Pistons look to get their first win of the season Monday night against the Atlanta Hawks. Unfortunately, they’ll have to do it with two of its best players.
The Detroit Pistons have listed Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose as out for Monday’s game vs. the Atlanta Hawks.
According to the injury report, Griffin will not play due to maintenance purposes, while Rose will rest. This should not be a concern for Pistons fans. Both players dealt with significant lower leg injuries throughout their careers, and they logged lengthy minutes during the 128-119 double-overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Griffin played a total of 44 minutes, while Rose 33 minutes.
The Pistons have yet to name who will start in Griffin’s place.
And there could be a good reason for that, as the Pistons could potentially be without a few more pieces.
Sekou Doumbouya and Jahlil Okafor are “day-to-day,” as they suffered ankle injuries in Saturday’s game.
Expect to see increased minutes for Svi Mykhailiuk and Rodney McGruder at the guard position. Also, rookie Isaiah Stewart could see some action for the first time this season. The Pistons listed him as DNP (did not play) status the last two games.
The Pistons will face a challenging task, regardless of who suits up for them.
The defeated the Hawks 136-106 in their last meeting, but that was with a different (and more veteran savvy) roster. While he was close to a triple-double, the Pistons held Hawks guard Trae Young to only 16 points in that game. Young is averaging 36.5 points over two games this season.
Expect that to continue as he’ll go head-to-head with the Pistons rookie Killian Hayes.
