Raymond, Husso Stand Tall in Red Wings Win

Lucas Raymond stood tall in the the Detroit Red Wings 3-0 win against the New York Islanders. Raymond, who was clearly being targeted multiple times throughout the contest, found the back of the net yet again on the power play for his 4th of the year. Lucas had a huge hit in the 2nd period on New York’s Matt Barzal, that ultimately could’ve been the momentum shift that Detroit needed to pull away.

Ville Husso had another dominant performance in net, recording a 26 save shutout. Husso notably had a breakaway save on New York’s Matt Barzal that could’ve potentially brought the Islanders back into the game. This was Ville’s 2nd shutout of the season and 5th of his career.

Red Wings’ Pius Suter scored his 2nd goal of the year that put Detroit up 2-0. Sniping on a shorthanded breakaway due to a fantastic clear by Adam Erne on the penalty kill. Halfway through the 3rd period, Dominik Kubalik continued to be great. Scoring his fifth goal on the year, meanwhile tallying another assist on the power-play. Kubalik now after today’s matchup now has five multi-point games on the season.

Red Wings’ Special Teams Continues to be a Difference Maker

The Red Wings power play percentage (16.1%) last season was among the worst in the NHL last year. Under Head Coach Derek Lalonde the power play along with the penalty kill has had a huge turnaround. The penalty kill stayed perfect tonight, killing all 3 penalties. Meanwhile, Lucas Raymond scored his second power play goal of the year. On nearly the same play as he did against Washington, both assisted by Dominik Kubalik. Red Wings’ offseason additions David Perron and Kubalik have put this power-play over the top and made them a force to be reckoned with.
