The truth is, Dan Campbell is out of touch with reality. He has no business being the Head Football Coach of any legitimate franchise. Lucky for Dan, the Detroit Lions are historically the furthest thing from a legitimate franchise. Sunday’s shutout loss to the New England Patriots exposed every inexperienced trait that Dan Campbell possesses as a “Head Coach”.
Thru 22 games as the Detroit Lions Head Coach, Dan Campbell is 4-17-1. Put that into context with the six other coaches and their records that were hired before the 2021-2022 NFL Season. Here is how the other six coaches have fared so far:
- Nick Sirianni: 13-8, 1 Playoff Appearance
- Urban Meyer: 2-11, Fired Year 1
- Robert Saleh: 7-15, 3-2 this Season
- Brandon Staley: 12-10, 3-2 this Season
- David Culley: 4-13, Fired Year 1
- Arthur Smith: 9-13, 2-3 this Season
Now, draw whatever comparisons you’d like, the truth is Campbell hasn’t given you much to look forward to outside of questionable 4th down decisions, questionable late-game clock management and play-calling, along with ZERO in-game or second half adjustments. Bill Belichick shutout the league’s No.1 offense, while finding a way to score more double the points they have been averaging on the offensive side of the ball.

It was Ugly from Start to Finish
The Detroit Lions were 4 for 12 on third-down, and 0 for 6 on fourth-down. The league’s No.1 offense averaging over 35 points per game was shutout for the first time since November 22, 2020, against the Carolina Panthers. Seven penalties for 82 yards pours salt onto the wound for a team that clearly is lacking the coaching needed to turn things around. The Detroit Lions did nothing well today, and you can’t look at anyone else other than the head coach, as difficult as that is to say.
Cold-Call Head Coaches aren’t Good Enough
We all know that Dan Campbell made such an unbelievable pitch to Sheila Ford Hamp, and that pitch had everything except one very important thing, substance. You can even watch back Hard Knocks, when Dan Campbell was preaching to the team that “hey man, I have a plan, I just need you all to trust me”. You really had me there, Dan, those motivational speeches are only as good as the follow-up and execution that follows. Dan Campbell doesn’t look like a head coach in the NFL, and the Detroit Lions have some serious questions to ask themselves heading into the bye week.
