Should the Red Wings Call up Simon Edvinsson?

For the Detroit Red Wings (4-3-2) who got off to what was a promising start, have shown many weaknesses and flaws. One huge weakness has been the defense.

Moving forward into this season no one expected the defense to look this shallow. Aside from Oilli Maatta, I don鈥檛 think any player has exceeded expectations so far. Detroit is 1-3 in their last four games, having lost those three games all by four plus goals. Ultimately getting blown out and embarrassed defensively.

Defensemen Gustav Lindstrom playing alongside Robert Hagg have been clearly struggling as a pair. Both players have a team worst -5 (+/-) on the year through only nine games.聽 If there are any adjustments that need to be regarding the defense it starts here.

聽Could The Red Wings Call Up Edvinsson?

The Detroit Red Wings 2021 6th overall pick Simon Edvinsson after some doubts early on, has been showing out in Grand Rapids. Simon through six games for the Griffins has six points (1 goal, 5 assists). Edvinsson has clearly been making an impact for the Griffins early on, but is it too early to bring him to the NHL?

As a team you never want to ruin a young players confidence by throwing him into the fire but, I believe Simon is ready and up for the challenge. Not to mention the Red Wings are in desperate need of change.

Edvinsson for one, stated in training camp that it was his goal to make the opening night roster.聽 He did end up falling short to his goal, which i believe makes for an even greater chip on his shoulder.

With the way Detroit has played the last four games, who is to say that Edvinsson couldn鈥檛 be the spark this team needs on the defensive end?
