Swift Opens Up on Surprising Trade, Hard Knocks Portrayal

D’Andre Swift, the former Detroit Lions running back, recently shared his astonishment over being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, confessing, “It was a surprise.” Just a week prior, Swift had been participating in the Lions’ offseason program. The Lions’ decision to select running back Jahmyr Gibbs with their 12th overall pick caught many, including Swift, off guard.

Trade Negotiations and Emotions

Swift’s agent quickly engaged in trade talks with the team, leaving the 24-year-old running back grappling with a rollercoaster of emotions. He recalled the experience, saying, “There really was no explanation. Everything went through my agent. A lot of different emotions going up and down.”

Returning Home to Philly

By Saturday, the trade was finalized, and Swift was headed to his hometown of Philadelphia in exchange for a swap of seventh-round picks and a 2025 fourth-round pick. The talented running back expressed gratitude for the opportunity, enthusing, “I’m excited, I’m happy. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of a great organization with tremendous history.”

Swift’s Performance and Challenges in Detroit

During his three years with the Lions, Swift played 40 games and amassed 1,680 rushing yards and 1,198 receiving yards. However, he faced health challenges, missing nine games and seeing limited action due to injury.

Heartfelt Thanks to Detroit from D’Andre Swift

Swift made a point to express his gratitude and love for Detroit during his Philadelphia press conference, saying, “I’ll forever have a place in my heart. I love them for the opportunity they gave me to just go out there and live out my dreams.” He thanked everyone in the Lions organization for their support throughout his tenure.

Controversial “Hard Knocks” Portrayal

Swift’s toughness was put into question in a scene from HBO’s “Hard Knocks,” where former Lions running backs coach Duce Staley urged him to fight for extra yards. During his introductory media session with the Eagles, Swift addressed the portrayal, stating, “I know who I am. I know what I’m about. I know I’m as tough as they come. But, with ‘Hard Knocks’ and everything, kind of how they portrayed (me), I didn’t like it.”

Despite the unexpected trade and the controversial portrayal on “Hard Knocks,” D’Andre Swift remains focused on proving his worth on the field as he starts anew with the Philadelphia Eagles.
