The Nintendo 64 classic GoldenEye 007 is coming back to Nintendo Switch and Xbox Live. And it has multiplayer. Be prepare to lose some hours.

Per multiple reports, developer Rare announced that they are going to release the classic N64 game GoldenEye 007 for Xbox Live and Nintendo Switch. During the Nintendo live-stream Tuesday, the company said the game will feature multiplayer online and should be featured on their catalog “soon.”

For Xbox Live, it will be playable for Xbox One and Xbox Series X and S. Rare Studios head Craig Duncan said that the game will  be a “faithful recreation” of the original game. One upgrade for the Xbox is that the game will be native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD. The bonus part will be the dual analogue control support. For anyone who played on the 64, it took some time to get used to what was then a unique controller.

The downside to Xbox Live, however, is that it will not have the multiplayer option. But per the Xbox post, players who own a digital copy of Rare Replay, the 30-game compilation of classics from the award-winning studio behind GoldenEye 007’s original release, will be able to download and enjoy the game free of charge.

On its original release in 1997,  GoldenEye 007 sold over 8 million copies. The custom multiplayer options, ranging from slappers only to the golden gun, there were countless ways to destroy your enemies. If you unlocked Oddjob, you were instantly the person in your group everyone disliked. For people like myself, this was their introduction to first-person shooters.

The game is centered on the movie “GoldenEye” that came out in 1995. Pierce Bronson played James Bond and is considered his best Bond movie among the four he was featured in. The movie has an 80% approval rating by the critics and an 83% approval rating by the fans on Rotten Tomatoes.
