The Moves You Don’t Make: Kenny Golladay

Former Detroit Lion Kenny Golladay is proving to be a bust after the Lions let him go a couple of years ago. Bob Quinn, former Lions GM, is now being credited for not re-signing the player.

The wide receiver was an absolute stud in Detroit. Golladay was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. By year three, he achieved back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons and led the NFL in receiving touchdowns. In his 47 games in Detroit, Golladay tallied 183 catches for 3,068 yards and 21 touchdowns. When his rookie contract was up, it seemed like a no-brainer to extend his stay in Detroit, but the Lions did not.

However, that decision is now proving to be the right move. Golladay ended up signing a four-year, $72-million contract with the New York Giants. So far he’s only caught 39 of 84 targets for 543 yards with zero touchdowns. In fact, his last touchdown catch was back on October 4, 2020 at Ford Field.

To add some perspective, Amon-Ra St. Brown will make less on his rookie contract than Kenny will this year alone. Now, that’s why its sometimes about the moves you don’t make!

Golladay will gear up to face his former team this Sunday at MetLife Stadium. He looks to turn his game around while the Lions look to keep their winning streak alive. Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson spoke about Golladay in a press conference on Thursday. He says he doesn’t know much about his current situation.

“I haven’t followed too much of Kenny’s situation. I just know from his time here, loved him as a player, love being in the meetings with him, practice field, game-day. He was always a good productive player for us when he was here, but I can’t speak on to what’s going on in New York with him.”

Will Kenny Golladay play Sunday?

According to the Practice Report, Golladay was limited on practice Wednesday and Thursday with a hamstring injury. However, he is expected to play on Sunday.

The Detroit Lions will head to New York for their Week 11 matchup with the New York Giants at Metlife Stadium. Kick-off is at 1pm ET.
