The Players Championship Picks and DFS Lineup

The PGA Tour stops at TPC Sawgrass this week. One of the Tour’s premier venues. Many non-or even casual golf fans know it for having the island green on the 17th hole par three. Newsflash, there’s more island greens on Tour but this is the only one that gets attention. Here are my odds picks for this weekend’s Players Championship.

Favorite:

Rory McIlroy +900 – Rory has made the cut in all four events he’s played this year including a win and a second-place last week. He’s made 7-of-13 cuts at the annual event including a win back in 2019. The No. 3 ranked player in the world has been consistently strong for what is feeling like a long time.

Decent Chance:

Jason Day +2800 – He’s continuing his ascension back to stardom after another top-10 last week. Day has been excellent at TPC Sawgrass making 7-of-12 cuts and notching a victory back in 2016. In 11 events this season he has nine top 25 finishes and five top 10s. He has gained 3.67 strokes putting or more in five straight.

Cameron Young +4500 – He missed the cut in his only Players appearance last year but we’ll just forget about that for now. He’s made 7-of-7 cuts this season, including four top 25s. He’s 12th in strokes gained off the tee and 14th in strokes gained approach to green. If his putter can wake up this weekend, he can win this tournament.

Lesser Chance:

Rickie Fowler +6000 – Not the greatest track record at TPC Sawgrass. But he does have a win and a runner-up. Of course, that feels like a lifetime ago. Back when, Fowler was considered among the best. But what if I told you, Rickie is back? 8-of-9 cuts made this year, including a runner-up and four other top 25s. Get your orange Puma shirts out for this weekend.

Keith Mitchell +6000 – Now get your visors out. Mitchell finished T-13 last year at the Players and is having a strong season. 9-of-11 cuts made including three top 10s. First in strokes gained off-the-tee on Tour and 25th in strokes gained overall. He is close to victory, will this be the week?

Long Shots:

Nick Taylor +20000 – O’Canada! Throw a Loonie on Taylor and let it ride. 8-of-12 cuts made this season, including three top 10s. He’s come up big in the elevated events including a second in Phoenix and a T-33 at the Genesis.

This is my perfect DFS Lineup for the weekend. Prices reflect FanDuel’s.
