After getting blown out by Green Bay in Week 2 its clear the Detroit Lions need to go into rebuild mode, and fast! Starting with the Head Coach.
Since Bob Quinn told us all 9-7 wasn’t good enough the Detroit Lions have won 9 games in just over 2 seasons. So going by Quinn standards its time to blow this whole thing up! Who should be next up as Head Coach of the Detroit Lions? We think these 5 guys would fit in nicely as the new head coach in Detroit.
The List of Detroit Head Coach Candidates
Eric Bieniemy
Eric Bieniemy tops the list of potential candidates. In all the Lions fan pages and chat rooms he seems to be the guy most fans want. He has been with Kansas City for 8 years. His first 5 were as the RB coach. He is currently the Offensive Coordinator for the Chiefs.
I like this option because, who doesn’t want a part of what KC has. The Lions running game has been awful since the Barry quit, via fax, during training camp in 1999. KC has had one of the leagues top running games for many years. This could be a marriage that would change the culture for Detroit.
Robert Saleh
Let’s face it Matt Stafford and our “high powered” offense hasn’t gotten us to where we need to go. So why not go all in on Defense? That is what the Lions would be doing if they went after Robert Saleh.
A Dearborn native, Saleh took the 49ers to the Super Bowl last year with an incredible Defense and an eye for talent. The Lions could look to the hometown guy to turn it all around. My biggest reservation with Saleh is he has no Head Coaching experience at the NFL level. I really think if the Detroit Lions want to improve they need a proven coach. But Saleh’s name is one of the hottest around when it comes to future head coaches in the league. He is worth a look.
Scott Turner
Scott Turner is a QB guru. He was able to take Cam Newton and make him Rookie of the Year. Then returning to The Panthers in 2018, Newton had one of his best season by throwing for 3,395 yards and completing a career-high 67.9% of his passes, which is the highest of any quarterback in Panthers history.
So far I like what he is doing in Washington with little talent. Tie in that he and Jack Del Rio have been taking a lot of the game planning from Ron Rivera due to health reasons, I think it would be a solid influx for the new offense that Detroit needs to put in. Hes a decedent of Norv Turner and has taken that offense and evolved it.
Jim Harbaugh
Lets be honest his time at Michigan hasn’t really helped his stock. But the last time Harbaugh was in the NFL he had his team in the Super Bowl. It’s also important to point out the drop off after he left the 49er’s. To me your absence can speak louder than your presence. Harbaugh brings intensity and passion for the game. That is something the Lions are sorely missing right now.
Harbaugh won 44 regular-season games in four years with the 49ers. Five more wins than the franchise had in the seven years before he got there. He won five playoff games, which is more than the franchise had in the 15 previous years.The Detroit Lions would be fools not to at least look his way.
Jim Caldwell
Bring this man back! Apologize for our stupidity and bring him back! I know he has health issues right now. I DO NOT CARE. We let the best coach in Detroit Lions history walk with a WINNING record!! Who do we think we are? I miss Caldwell and his calm demeanor on the side line. He was a Super Bowl winning coach and we just threw him away. I shouldn’t even have to write anymore, his numbers will do the talking.
