Why David Perron Was The Perfect Offseason Addition

81

Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman was on a mission this past off-season. That mission was fill the roster with applicable pieces, that not only benefit the growth of the team right now but for the future as well. David Perron has been the epitome of just that. Although it’s hard to judge how he will be towards the end of his contract, but for the time being Perron has been everything the Red Wings could’ve asked for and then some.

Perron’s Paying Off

David Perron 31 games in with Detroit, now is second on the team in points with 26 (11G,15A). Meanwhile he is one of five Red Wings with a +/- that is positive at +2. Perron’s knack for being a play maker let alone a power-play specialist, has paid dividends for Detroit. As of late we’ve seen David playing on the top line with Captain Dylan Larkin, and with that I believe has been pushing Larkin every game and striving to bring the best out of him.

Not only has David Perron been the perfect veteran presence for this blooming roster, but he is the perfect player for a rising star like Lucas Raymond to model and mold has game after. Both players having lots of similarities between right handed wingers, their playmaking ability and fantastic wrist shots. Perron being 34 years old signing a 2 year deal with the Red Wings. Leaves a perfect window for Raymond. A window in which to develop and mesh into that first line winger that we all hope he can be.

David Perron is one of many examples showing how Steve Yzerman is turning the tides of Hockeytown, one piece at a time.
