Lions cut CB Alex Brown ahead of Tuesday deadline

On Sunday afternoon, the Detroit Lions announced they waived cornerback Alex Brown.

Before cutting Brown, the Lions roster sat at 90 players. And by Tuesday at 4 p.m., they’ll need to get that number down to 85, per league rules. Before making the Lions roster, Brown previously played for the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019 as an undrafted rookie. He finished the season on their 53-man roster.

Unfortunately, Brown missed the entire 2020 season. He suffered an ACL injury during training camp, which led to his placement on the injured reserve list.

Brown played 11 snaps on defense during the Lions’ 16-15 loss to the Bills. He registered one tackle during the preseason opener. After releasing Quinton Dunbar, the Lions announced Craig Reynolds’ signing simultaneously. That did not happen here.

The Lions continue to sort out their depth with a unit that has the promise to be their most improved.  With Alex Brown gone, the Lions will figured out a way to add to their depth at cornerback.

On Saturday, the Lions head to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers at Heinz Field. The kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.
