Lions fear Jeff Okudah may have Achilles injury

The Detroit Lions lost more than a game today. They fear that they may have lost Jeff Okudah.

Okudah left the game early fourth quarter with a leg/ankle injury. After leaving the field, he made a pit-stop on the sideline before heading to the locker room and did not return for the game.

During the post-game media session, Lions head coach Dan Campbell stated that he did not have an injury update on Okudah. However, Campbell did state that he believes the injury could be ankle/Achilles related.

“We’re checking him out now,” said Campbell. “We know, of course, it’s somewhere around the ankle. Could be an Achilles. We will know a lot more this afternoon, hopefully, or tomorrow morning.”

The Lions will evaluate his status tomorrow, where an MRI will determine the official prognosis.

It’s an unfortunate turn of events for the Lions and Okudah. Okudah dealt with a string of injuries during his rookie season. For him to still deal with yet another injury that could be season-ending is devastating. If it is indeed an Achilles injury, expect the Lions to shut him down for the remainder of the season.

If the injury is not Achilles-related, it’s safe to surmise he’ll miss time. It did not look good for him as he went to the sidelines.

Earlier in the game, an exchange between Okudah and Lions secondary coach Aubrey Pleasant aired on national television, with Pleasant giving him an earful.

And it wasn’t pretty.

The Lions lost their home opener to the 49ers, 41-33.
