The Tigers Might Send 10 All-Stars to the Midsummer Classic and That’s Not Even an Exaggeration
The Detroit Tigers are the best team in the American League right now, first in ERA, fifth in home runs, fifth in batting average, and sixth in OPS. The All-Star conversation isn’t about IF they get representation — it’s about how many guys they’re sending.
This is actually happening. The Detroit Tigers — the same franchise that couldn’t score runs to save their lives a year ago — might send damn near half their roster to the All-Star Game.
First in ERA. Fifth in home runs. Fifth in batting average. Sixth in OPS. That’s not a typo. That’s your 2025 Detroit Tigers.
The Locks Are Obvious
Tarik Skubal. Riley Greene. Matt Karp. Spencer Torkelson. Seth Kanley. These guys are going to Arlington whether they want to or not. Skubal’s been the best pitcher in the American League, Greene’s been mashing, and Tork — yeah, THAT Tork — is actually producing at an All-Star level. The redemption arc is real.
Will Vest might be more of a lock than Tork at this point. The bullpen has been lights out, and Vest has been a massive part of that.
The Fringe Guys Who Absolutely Deserve It
Here’s where it gets fun. Maias Torres. Olsen. And then there’s Javier Baez.
Stop. Read that name again.
Javier Baez leads the Tigers in WAR. He’s among the AL leaders. This is a guy who was legitimately the worst player in baseball for two consecutive years. Not bad — the WORST. And now he’s playing at an All-Star level with an insane OPS. This might be one of the biggest turnarounds in MLB history. No exaggeration.
Casey Mize? Five and one. Looks like a top-of-the-rotation arm every single start. The “Summer of I’m Backs” included Mize, Javi, and Tork — and all three of them actually came back. Nobody predicted that. Nobody.
The Dingler Debate
Dylan Dingler has been playing at an All-Star level behind the plate. His defensive stats are elite — some of the best in baseball when it comes to assist outs. That cannon is real. But here’s the problem: catchers typically only get two spots, the starter makes it no matter what, and name recognition matters in fan voting.
Is the average baseball fan going to vote for Dylan Dingler? Probably not. But should they? Absolutely. The guy’s hitting .300 on the best team in the American League. If that’s not an All-Star, what is?
The real story isn’t just the individual candidates — it’s what this team is doing collectively. They have the most runners going first to third in MLB this year, tied with Houston. They’re taking extra bases, hitting home runs, and playing offense the way you have to in modern baseball. Nobody looks outmatched in their at-bats anymore.
Chris Ilitch is sitting somewhere right now like Homelander after accidentally doing something right. He didn’t think it was going to work. Nobody did. But here we are — the Tigers are legit, and they might need to charter a separate plane just for their All-Stars.
The Takeaways
- Javier Baez going from worst player in baseball to leading the Tigers in WAR is one of the wildest turnarounds in MLB history
- The Tigers are first in AL ERA, fifth in home runs and batting average — this offense is real
- Dylan Dingler deserves All-Star consideration but fan voting will probably screw him
