PREVIEW: Detroit Pistons Tip-Off NBA Season VS Boston Celtics TODAY!
Detroit, MI – The Pistons tip off the NBA season vs the new look Boston Celtics TODAY at 3pm!!! It’s the earliest weekday start time for a game in NBA history.
The Pistons seek to maintain atop an improved Eastern Conference. They will face early tests with match-ups with other contenders including the new look Celtics.
STAR NARRATIVES:
Superstar Cade Cunningham looks to build on an All-NBA 1st team selection while powering the Pistons to lofty post season expectations. Cade is surrounded by better floor spacers, and enter athletic big man John Collins for an even more dynamic flow to their offense.
Jayson Tatum is running without former co-star Jaylen Brown, who was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. But as a champion and one of the best in the game, don’t think Tatum will skip a beat.
X-FACTORS:
Can Ausar Thompson and Jalen Duren STEP UP to be the co-stars that Cade Cunningham needs? After receiving big deals in the off-season, it’s safe to say the organization believes they’ll deliver big on the court.
Duren looks to show he’s worth the new contract while working prove he’s a perennial all-star and All-NBA player.
NEXT UP:
For Ausar Thompson, can he take on a bigger offensive role without it negatively impacting his defensive energy? His confidence was on full display as he converted mid range shots and opportunities. It proves he’s more walk than talk wanting to be aggressive with the ball.
UNDERRATED:
The Detroit Pistons depth is one that could become a weapon. They are balanced with ball handling, shooting, and a they have Bball Paul Reed.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Will the real Detroit Pistons defense please stand up? Without the former muscle in Isaiah Stewart, JB Bickerstaff and the Pistons get a chance to prove the defensive success and identity over the last few years was “built here”. They lost some size and activity in the paint with Tobias Harris and Stewart gone, but they picked up more active hands on the perimeter. And without saying it out loud, they expect Jalen Duren to take a leap forward on the defensive end this season.
Is it even possible for Ausar Thompson to have any more growth on the defensive end? If you ask him, he believes so. Which should be scary for top player around the league! Jalen Brunson once referred to Thompson as the one who had defended him best to that point (Pistons vs Knicks playoffs 2025).
