Why Are Fans SALTY About Comerica Park Being Named Fifth Third Park?!
Why are some Detroit Tigers fans so salty about Comerica Park being named Fifth Third Park?
What did you expect? That they were going to change the name from Comerica Park to Tiger Stadium? That’s not the way things work in today’s corporate world. Most stadiums are named after banks, fast food giants, cell phone companies and any other billion-dollar corporation you can find.
With the way our president is acting, you are more likely to see stadiums being called Trump Field rather than the name of the sports franchise.
When Comerica and Fifth Third banks merged, when Comerica was no longer in existence, the most logical plan of attack was to call it Fifth Third Park or Fifth Third Stadium.
Actually, I think they should call it the Fifth Third House of Horrors after the way the Tigers play.
The Tigers even asked fans for suggestions to rename the ballpark. I am sure every suggestion was immediately thrown into the trash bin or burned.
So, we are stuck with Little Caesars Arena, Ford Field and Fifth Third Park.
I am old enough to remember our sports teams playing at The Palace of Auburn Hills, Tiger Stadium, Joe Louis Arena, Olympia and Cobo Arena.
Those days are long gone.
Fifth Third knows what this ballpark means to Detroit, and we don’t take that lightly,” Fifth Third President and CEO Tim Spence said. “We’re here to be a responsible partner for this team and the city’s future, to honor it, invest in it, and help carry it forward for the fans and families who love it so.”
I don’t know why I threw this quote in. It’s just a statement of balderdash and nonsense.
Now the shit will really hit the fan when they rename Michigan Stadium after a large corporation. M Go Blue fans will go ape shit. These are the same people that did not want advertising in the stadium, who helped get rid of Athletic Director Tom Goss because the school put a ring around the stadium. They don’t even want a Wolverine mascot prancing on the sidelines.
They will riot after they call the Big House, Verizon Stadium or Big Mac Field.
